Trick Daddy’s Remark Regarding Not Identifying as African American
A video that was first acquired by Instagram user @livebitez was uploaded by The Shade Room on Tuesday, November 12. Trick Daddy said, “I’m trying to figure out how ‘Afro’ get in front of my motherf*****g [inaudible],” in the video.
Speaking into the camera, Trick stated, “I have never been to Africa.” “I’m not an African.” I grew up in [inaudible], Florida, where I was born. I grew up in the Liberty City slums after being born in [inaudible]. I’ve never been to Africa, and I’m not considering it.
Trick Daddy said that he “knows it’s the motherland” and “heard it’s a beautiful place” as the video went on.
However, he said, “not my mother, not her mother, and not her mother’s mother.” It’s not their territory. Here, on American soil, lies America’s true, authentic homeland.

Social Media Responds
In the comment section of The Shade Room, social media users expressed a wide range of responses to Trick Daddy’s position.
He is a Black American, albeit a slow one, according to the Instagram post by @kaeetheartist.
@fnb.chriss, an Instagram user, said, “N***a look more African than me๐.”
@nnebugod, an Instagram user, wrote: “As a Nigerian, identify anyway you like. We’re all Black, and when the cops stop you, they have no idea if you’re African, Caribbean, or Black American. This discussion is so worn out.
“He literally looks like my uncle that lives in the village in Nigeria ๐,” Instagram user @zay__ade continued.
@robthabarber said on Instagram, “Everyone got that One Drunk Uncle..๐๐๐๐.”
To be fair, James Baldwin famously remarked, “To be African American is to be African without memory and American without any privilege,” while Instagram user @zioncallaham added. I don’t want to argue, so do anything you want with it.
“That man is president again because of this kind of ignorance,” Instagram user @theblackmedia said.
“We Africans born in Africa don’t even want you to have any links with us ๐,” Instagram user @its_katchy added.
@dupreegod, an Instagram user, commented, “I know what he means. For example, you’re of decent descent but weren’t born in Africa. He saying he is just American. Why does it need be prefixed with African American. I understand what he is sayingโ
While Instagram user @thatgirl_yoli added, โAs an African weโre not arguing with yall about this anymore โฆ you are whatever you wanna be sir โ๐พ๐โ
Instagram user @amyr_law wrote, โTrick know what he talmbout ๐ฏโ
Meanwhile, Joseline Hernandez added.

Tyrese Made Headlines After Saying He Wished He Was โBorn Latinoโ
As The Shade Room previously reported, Tyrese turned heads earlier this year after making an interesting statement about himself and his ethnicity. In February, the singer took to Instagram to share a video of a Latino family gifting their loved one a car.
โSometimes I wish I was born Latinoโฆ. I mean the Latin community is grounded in family, loyal, entrepreneurs, businessman, and women literally represent the dream, the grind the hustle doing whatever it takes to stick together against all oddsโฆโ he wrote in the caption of the video.
In addition, Tyrese went on to share why he believes the Black community has โlost its way,โ soliciting a bunch of reactions from social media users.
