Vanessa Lachey Addresses Age Gap Romance With Husband Nick Lachey

In addition to the 98 reasons Vanessa Lachey loves Nick Lachey, their seven-year age difference has taught her another.

Since they had been dating for five years, Vanessa gave Nick a five-year ultimatum before they were married in 2011. However, she came to the realization that her age—she was in her 20s at the time—might have contributed to his protracted delay in proposing.

According to her, “I’ve talked about the fact that I’ve given an ultimatum,” in season three of the Netflix series The Ultimatum. “But what I’ve never talked about is what I actually truly did.”

“I kept pointing the finger, and I took that finger and turned it to myself,” Vanessa went on. “What am I not giving him?” I had to ask myself after that. I’m not treating him with the deference I demand. I’m not communicating with him the way I would like to.”

The star of NCIS: Hawaii acknowledged that she wasn’t presenting herself as prepared for marriage.

“I was still going out and partying with my girls, and I’m telling him I want to be a mom,” she said, pointing out the age difference. “Cool, okay, so I’ll see you at 2:30 when you get home?” he asks.

After realizing their goals were in line, Nick, 51, and Vanessa, 44, said “I do” in the British Virgin Islands before having children, Camden. Phoenix Robert Lachey, 7, Brooklyn Elisabeth Lachey, 9, and John Lachey, 12.

However, things haven’t always been easy in their marriage.

She made a joke on the Netflix reality show, “We are both Scorpios, we’re stubborn.” “Same birthday, so you can imagine the therapy sessions.”

“We sit up here, we don’t have it figured out,” agreed Nick, who was wed to Jessica Simpson from 2002 to 2006. We always struggle.

Vanessa said, “We had a fight last night, getting ready for here, but we had to clear the air.”

The couple, who recently left their Hawaiian home, believes that life is better together despite their disagreements.

Nick said, “Don’t let your past dictate your future.” “What I truly always wanted in my life, which was to have a beautiful marriage and a beautiful family, if I hadn’t retained my belief in that, I wouldn’t have ever realized the beautiful life I have with this woman.”

“When you love each other, you believe in each other and you’re aligned,” the 98 Degrees singer continued.

The Final Warning
The couple was the ideal choice to host Netflix’s The Ultimatum because Vanessa Lachey has publicly acknowledged that she made a last proposal to Nick Lachey after they had been dating for five years and he had no intention of popping the question.

“I finally said, ‘What are we doing?'” Vanessa revealed on the reality show’s first episode. “I’ve moved in with him now. I completely remodeled his bachelor apartment. The pool featured a bar. I say, ‘Whatever you want.’ I want children in the pool now. I then began the dance by waving my ring finger in the air.

Additionally, Nick initially decided to move on instead of get married, and the two parted ways for a brief time during which they each saw another individual.

At the 2022 premiere of The Ultimatum, Vanessa told E! News, “It took us splitting up for about a month and then coming back and him saying, I want to make this work.” “He was the one who suggested couple’s therapy.”

The couple reconnected in 2009 and were married in 2011.

Dramatic Divorce
Vanessa thought about her early years of dating Nick and the notion that she was receiving the remains of the 98 Degrees singer following his 2006 divorce from Jessica Simpson during season one of The Ultimatum.

“He was literally in a very public marriage and a very public divorce,” she clarified in the sixth episode. “I had to deal with all of that in public, and that was really difficult for us. It wasn’t until he stated, “I’m going to let it go,” and I agreed, that we made a sincere commitment to one another.”

Nick continued, “We literally fell deeper and harder than we ever could.”

Not Sensing the Heat
During the couple’s 2022 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Vanessa acknowledged that she didn’t like Nick’s boy band, 98 Degrees, even though she was a VJ on MTV’s Total Request Live, which frequently featured the band’s music videos, one of which she appeared in.

She clarified to Nick, “It’s not because I didn’t love your music,” “I was a *NSYNC fan.”

Hall Pass Laughs
We’re curious to know Ryan Reynolds’ thoughts on this suggestion.

Nick was able to accurately predict that Vanessa would choose the Deadpool star as her celebrity hall pass while hosting the second season reunion of The Ultimatum. This star is also known as the one you would hook up with if you had the chance, with your partner’s consent.

Vanessa responded to the camera by saying, “Ryan, uh, call us,” and Nick couldn’t help but chuckle at his wife of over ten years giving the actor—who has been married to Blake Lively since 2012—a chance to date him.

Nick also remarked, “Ryan’s gonna be one busy guy!” as Ryann McCracken, a participant on The Ultimatum, disclosed that Reynolds would also be her hall pass.

When wet, slippery
One of the keys to the eleven-year marriage of the Lacheys?

Vanessa said, “Shower sex,” in a 2020 episode of The Bellas Podcast. “I’m thinking, ‘I have a full day,’ while I’m taking a shower. Your day is full. Now is the only time to act. The children are in school. It takes place, and if you receive the cherry on top later that evening, it’s fantastic. If not, however, we have already engaged in shower sex.

Away from Snooping
Vanessa admitted to the conduct during The Ultimatum’s season one reunion special, even though some couples could view going through one other’s phones as a warning sign.

She said to a competitor who had also looked through her partner’s phone, “There was a time in my life when I did it.” Nick’s reaction to his wife’s admission was, “You wait, what?” In a swift reply, the NCIS: Hawaii actress said, “You did it too! Actually, I’m shocked that you were able to find out my password—it was a clever one.”

The pair went on to say that when their therapist advised them that they “shouldn’t be together” if they didn’t trust one another, they stopped their cunning tactics.

Vanessa stated, “I was like, ‘You’re right,'” “Both he and I must have faith in each other.

Mirrorball Problems
Nick said he didn’t enjoy his time on the 25th season of the ABC show Dancing With the Stars, and the ballroom wasn’t the greatest setting for him.

“That was one of those things—I’m glad I did it,” he said in a 2018 interview with Us Weekly. “I’m glad I checked it off the list, and I can look back and say, ‘I have no regrets,’ but it was not one of the fonder moments in my life.”

After acknowledging that he doesn’t “like dancing,” Nick gave the explanation that he “shouldn’t have done it to begin with.”

Getting Past It
Although the couple isn’t scared to be open now, Vanessa wasn’t always that way; during the second season of The Ultimatum, she became tearful about her personal development.

“Nick and I have been together for 16 years and we know each other—married for 11—but it’s so funny that for some reason we don’t learn more about each other until we’re in, like, a therapy session,” she said in the sixth episode. “And the reason why I’m choking up is because I’ve had to get through so much s–t to be the best woman for him.”

“Every single issue we had, every issue I brought up—to find that person, that I can trust and that can carry me through,” she said, “is what made us unstoppable.”

And because of that inward work, she and her husband are closer than ever. Vanessa says it’s “so freeing to tell everything” to someone who will “be there to pick you up.”
