Tyler Perry ‘Has Been Taking Care’ of ‘House of Horrors’ Turpin Family, Oprah Winfrey Says: ‘He Is the Quiet Good Samaritan’

Oprah Winfrey claims that Tyler Perry has been doing well for the Turpin family behind closed doors.

Winfrey, 70, discussed Perry’s charitable endeavors during the Paley Honors Fall Gala on Wednesday, December 4, held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, where he received The Paley Honors Award for his historic media accomplishments.

“Remember the Turpin children?” Winfrey questioned those present. “Diane Sawyer did a primetime special on these children who had been tortured and abused and locked in their home by their parents, and remember, the one daughter escaped out of the window and ran and told the neighbor?”

“Tyler saw that special, and he reached out, and until this moment, no one has known that Tyler Perry has been taking care of those now almost grown children, making sure they have the financial, the psychological and the emotional support to grow themselves forward,” she said.

Jordan Turpin, then 17 years old, fled her family’s California home in early 2018 and dialed 911 to report the years-long abuse her parents, David and Louise Turpin, had perpetrated on their 13 children.

Their parents allegedly shackled Jordan and her brothers to their beds, denied them food, and prevented them from exercising, all while regularly abusing them physically, verbally, and mentally.

After being found guilty on 14 felony counts, David and Louise received jail sentences ranging from 25 years to life. Since then, the Turpin siblings—who were between the ages of 2 and 29 when they were rescued—have established new lives for themselves and have grown close to one another.

Winfrey continued her discussion of Perry’s charitable work by stating, “He is the silent Good Samaritan. He is the one who fixes everything. He is the one who heals.

“No one ever sees or hears about the majority of his philanthropy. Most people who watch the news say, ‘Oh, what a shame,’ but Tyler watches and asks, ‘What can I do to make a change?'” she continued.

Winfrey continued by recalling a time when Perry, 55, helped her out: “Once, I was going through some crisis and Tyler flew from Georgia to California, knocked on my door and surprised me.”

“He remarked, ‘I needed to see your face,’ when I answered the door. “You’re going to be fine,” she added, and he turned around and left for home. “I’ll always remember it. Tyler is a miracle, so I will carry that moment with me till the afterlife.
