Simon Cowell pays tribute to Liam Payne: X Factor mogul who propelled One Direction to fame is supported by partner Lauren Silverman at star’s funeral

A month after One Direction star Liam Payne’s untimely death in Argentina, Simon Cowell has traveled to attend the singer’s funeral.

Payne passed away on October 16 at the age of 31 following a fall from a hotel balcony on the third floor in the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires.

Cowell wrote a heartfelt ode to Payne after his passing, calling him a “kind, funny, and talented” pop star who “never forgot the fans.”

When Payne initially tried out for X Factor at the age of 14, the recording mogul got to know him.

“You never really know how you feel about someone until a moment like this happens,” Cowell wrote in his October homage to the star.

“Liam, I’m in complete despair.” Heartbroken. I also feel empty.

Right now, it’s so hard to put this into words. As I stepped outdoors today, I reflected on all of the times we spent together.

In response to the thousands of people who would constantly question me, I wanted to share with you what I always said.

Cowell and his partner Laura Silverman showed up at the burial.

In homage to Payne’s passion for bowling, Cowell passed floral arrangements featuring bowling pins and a ball.
