It has been a great morning for Selena Gomez. The actor accomplished a rare achievement on Dec. 9 when he received double nominations at the 2025 Golden Globes. She posted her astonished response on her Instagram story shortly after presenters Morris Chestnut and Mindy Kaling revealed the nominations.
With nominations for Best Supporting Female Actor in a Motion Picture for the Netflix musical Emilia Pérez and Best Actress in a Comedy Series for the fourth season of Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building, Gomez was honored at the Globes in both the film and television categories.
Gomez’s reaction video shows how shocked she was when Chestnut called her name in the Best Supporting Actress category. She exclaimed, “Oh my god,” and hid her face in her hands. After Ariana Grande’s highly praised performance in Wicked was announced as the following nomination, Gomez broke down in tears. “Arri, my god!” she cried.
“I am at a loss for what to write. She praised her co-star Zoe Saldaña, who is also nominated in the same category, in her post, saying, “I’m so proud of @zoesaldana and I am so grateful and honored @goldenglobes.”
Following Emilia Pérez’s ten nominations, Gomez posted a message on Instagram for the film’s lead, Karla Sofía Gascón (who received a nomination for Best Female Actor in a Comedy or Musical), director Jacques Audiard, and the crew. “My love, @karsiagascon “I am incredibly honored and thankful to have met you,” she added. “To Jacques, [Clément Ducol], and Camille, congratulations.”
The nominations for Gomez, Saldaña, and Gascón come months after they and their co-star Adriana Paz won the Best Actress award for Emilia Pérez at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival in May. At the time, Gomez posted on Instagram, “Thank you so much [Cannes Film Festival] and the entire board.”
Gomez also mentioned that she was nominated for Best Female Actor in a Comedy Series for her performance as Mabel Mora in Only Murders, her third consecutive nomination in the category. She posted an on-set selfie with co-stars and fellow Globe candidates Steve Martin and Martin Short, writing, “So proud of my @onlymurdershulu family,” accompanied with a happy-tear emoji.
Sebastian Stan, who received two nominations for Best Male Actor in a Motion Picture in the drama category for The Apprentice and the comedy and musical category for A Different Man, was the only other actor to receive two nominations at the Globes.
