After police visited houses all around the UK, everyone seen using a shady firestick was given a warning.
Last month, a person in the UK was imprisoned for using and distributing “dodgy” firesticks.
Technically, owning an Amazon Firestick that has been “jailbroken” to allow access to any streamer of your choosing is not illegal.
However, using the to watch paywalled material for free is prohibited.
To combat unlawful streaming, police have been to houses all throughout the nation.
The “Federation Against Copyright Theft” (FACT) is leading a two-week enforcement campaign.
According to The Mirror, the main goal of this initiative, which is being carried out in collaboration with local law enforcement, is “dismantling piracy operations, targeting more than 30 suppliers selling unauthorised access to paywalled content.”
However, they are also stopping specific individuals to deliver cease-and-desist letters to those who are employing dubious sticks. Additionally, letters were mailed to several addresses believed to be viewing TV, movies, and live sports on illicit streaming websites.
The following areas of the UK were subject to the clampdown: London
Kent Sussex
The Norfolk
The county of Northampton
The Lincolnshire
The Staffordshire region
Midlands, East and West
Greater Manchester
The Cheshire
The Merseyside
Northumbria
Yorkshire’s North
Jonathan Edge, 29, was imprisoned for three years and four months prior to the clampdown.
Edge was sentenced to jail for disobeying FACT’s cease-and-desist order. Following this, he persisted in using and selling dubious firesticks, and the Premier League threatened to prosecute him privately.
Furthermore, as part of FACT’s operation, a 42-year-old Newport man was taken into custody.
“Our cease-and-desist measures are not just warnings—they are the first step toward holding offenders accountable,” said Kieron Sharp, the CEO of FACT, in a statement. Many people who previously disregarded these notices are currently being arrested and charged with crimes. Anyone engaged in these activities is strongly encouraged to cease right away.
“Take this as a stark reminder that you are breaching the law and could face harsh repercussions if you are providing or using unlawful streaming devices or illegal IPTV subscriptions.
“We’ll keep collaborating with law enforcement to find and stop these illicit activities. We appreciate the help that the police in the UK have been providing in their relentless efforts to combat this crime.
The lesson to individuals who use unlawful streaming sites is that doing so puts you in danger in addition to breaking the law. With no recourse in the event of a problem, these services frequently expose consumers to viruses, frauds, and data theft.
“Staying with reputable entertainment providers is the safest, wisest, and only option.”
