According to British actress Kaya Scodelario, she developed the confidence to refuse unwelcome X-rated scenes during filming as she grew older.
She first gained notoriety at the young age of 14 for her role as Effy on the popular E4 series Skins. She made appearances in the first, fourth, and seventh seasons of the show.
She admitted to lying to the producers about her age, saying she was 15 but that she panicked when she realized they required a younger actor. I told a falsehood! I am just fourteen years old.
She compared Skins to HBO’s Euphoria in 2022 and said that, when she thought about it, the show was “crazy for 17 year olds.”
However, since safeguarding wasn’t really a thing at the time, she then recalled what she was doing at 14.
She also mentioned that there were “a lot of sex scenes” while filming her own Skins spin-off season.
But she was comfortable enough to refuse.
During that series, she stated, “I felt much more confident in saying what I felt.”
She said, “There were a lot of sex scenes in the first draft when it came out.”
“I knew it was because they could show more since I turned eighteen.”
At the age of 19, Kaya had no problem defending herself.
“I turned around and said, ‘No, that is not necessary.'”
