Nick Lachey Makes Rare Comment on “Scars” of Jessica Simpson Marriage

In retrospect, Nick Lachey’s first marriage doesn’t appear that enticing.

In a recent brief insight into their relationship, the 98 Degrees singer, who was married to Jessica Simpson from 2002 to 2006, revealed that he is still dealing with the grief of their breakup almost twenty years later.

On season three of The Ultimatum, which is currently available on Netflix, Nick said to a competitor, “I, too, was previously married, divorced, so I understand the hurt, the scars that exist from that.”

In the end, Johnny had to set those anxieties aside before getting married to Vanessa Lachey, his second wife, in 2011.

Nick said, “Don’t let your past dictate your future.” “What I truly always wanted in my life, which was to have a beautiful marriage and a beautiful family, if I hadn’t retained my belief in that, I wouldn’t have ever realized the beautiful life I have with this woman.”

Before he proposed in February 2002, Nick, 51, and Jessica, 44, initially crossed paths at a Hollywood Christmas Parade in Los Angeles in 1998.

According to People, she said on her website at the time, “I said yeeeeeeeeeeeeessssss!!!” after Nick Lachey proposed to her in a very romantic manner. “He had been waiting for me to mature a bit, which I needed, with patience. And I did! My life feels so ideal right now.

The singer of “I Wanna Love You Forever” later disclosed that she was caught off guard by the casual nature of the proposal.

“I was wearing a huge sweatshirt that came down to my knees,” she said to the outlet the next year. “If I had known he was going to propose, I would have at least dressed up cute.”

The pair appeared on Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica after getting married in Texas later that year, but she only filed for divorce three years later, claiming “irreconcilable differences” as the cause of the breakup.

Nevertheless, Jessica has no regrets about using the MTV reality show to highlight their love story.

“I have no regrets about that. In 2022, she said on The Real, “I mean, if anything, it was great TV.” “It was very real, and Nick and I actually had a lot of fun.”

However, that doesn’t imply that they want to be together forever. The ex-couples have made some subtle jabs at one another in the years since their breakup. Nick, who has children with Vanessa, Camden, 12, Brooklyn, 9, and Phoenix, 7, said on Love Is Blind season three in 2022 that marriage “is always better the second time.”

Jessica, who has children with Eric Johnson, including Maxwell, 12, Ace, 11, and Birdie Mae, 5, recently seemed to disparage Nick by responding to viewers who claimed to have just discovered that the “What’s Left of Me” singer was the primary antagonist of the show from the beginning. In a 2023 interview, Jessica responded to Bustle by saying, “It’s amazing what publicity can do.”
