Three men lost their lives on the roads during Storm Bert, prompting the UK to issue multiple weather warnings.

Over 200 flood alerts were issued overnight for England, Wales, and Scotland on Saturday, November 23, leaving thousands without electricity.

The Met Office issued yellow weather warnings nationwide on Sunday, November 24, following a weekend that saw a lot of rain and snow strike the nation.

At approximately 7.47 a.m. on Saturday, a tree fell on a car on the A34 near Winchester, to the southbound lane between Kings Worthy and Winnall, resulting in the death of a man in his 60s, according to Hampshire Police.

At the scene, they discovered a black Mercedes E350’s driver deceased.

Officers are looking into whether the storm had anything to do with the occurrence.

It is still unknown whether the storm was a factor in either of the two additional fatal collisions that occurred in England during the storm’s onset.

Early on Saturday morning, a single-vehicle incident on Shipley’s Moorhead Lane claimed the life of a 34-year-old man, according to West Yorkshire Police.

Officers discovered that a blue Renault Captur had struck a wall while it was heading towards Saltaire.

In the meantime, a guy in his 40s lost his life in an accident on the A45 close to Flore, Northamptonshire.

According to Northamptonshire Police, a silver Toyota Corolla and a dark grey Hyundai i30 Active collided on Saturday morning.

The weather is expected to “cause some low level impacts, including some disruption to travel in a few places,” according to the Met Office’s yellow weather warnings for today.

Additionally, the snow that blanketed most of Scotland and the north of England is melting due to milder weather.

But until 9 p.m. on Sunday, Storm Bert is expected to create “dangerous coastal conditions” throughout southern England and portions of Wales, according to the weather service.

“Flood alert for River Gowy catchment, including areas around Frodsham,” the Environment Agency stated.

Roads and low-lying areas may flood, but property flooding is not anticipated. Locations close to the River Gowy may experience flooding starting around 5:00 PM on November 22, 2024.

Levels will continue to rise and stay high throughout the weekend due to the prediction of more heavy rains. Steer clear of any bridges and low-lying walkways close to nearby watercourses.

“My thoughts are with all those affected by Storm Bert,” tweeted Ed Miliband, the Energy Secretary, last night.

“In order to help those impacted and ensure that power is restored as quickly as possible, my department will be closely coordinating with the energy companies for those who have lost it.”
