According to Hall of Famer and former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin, Mike Tyson was not allowed to throw uppercuts at Jake Paul during their boxing battle because of his contract. On Friday, November 15, Tyson fought Paul at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and lost by unanimous decision.
It’s not just Michael Irvin, who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2007 after playing for the Dallas Cowboys from 1988 to 1999, who watched the Tyson-Paul bout and speculated that it might have been rigged.
Irvin, a former wide receiver in the NFL, appears to think that Mike Tyson’s contract contained a clause that prohibited him from hitting Jake Paul with uppercuts.
“They had absolutely no plans to scrap. I couldn’t see a single Mike Tyson patented uppercut in that. What if he took an uppercut from Mike Tyson? Then I overheard several individuals discussing how they included that in the contract. He was unable to uppercut after bodying.
