After Luigi Mangione was arrested for the murder of Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, his family released a statement.
On Monday, December 9, Mangione was taken into custody outside of a McDonald’s in Pennsylvania when a member of the public recognized him and alerted the authorities.
He was discovered in possession of a revolver, a mask, and several notes that connected him to the CEO’s murder when he was captured.
The 26-year-old Maryland resident was arrested and is being held in Pennsylvania without the possibility of release.
In addition, he was accused of fraud, giving police a false identity, and possessing an unauthorized firearm.
Last Wednesday, outside the Hilton Hotel on Sixth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, Thompson, 50, was shot in the back and once in the calf, resulting in his death.
‘Deny’, ‘depose’, and ‘defend’ were engraved on the shell casings and live rounds that were left to the silent gun.
The CEO’s passing shocked many people and sent shockwaves across the country. Mangione’s family has now posted a message on social media.
The family of Mangione is “shocked and devastated.”
Following the announcement of Mangione’s arrest, his family expressed their disbelief in a message that was shared on Twitter.
Nino, Mangione’s cousin and a Republican in the Maryland state legislature’s lower chamber, wrote: “We regretfully are unable to comment on press stories about Luigi Mangione.
“All we are aware of is what we have read in the media.”
He wrote: “Luigi’s arrest has shocked and devastated our family.” We ask that people pray for everyone involved and give our condolences to Brian Thompson’s family.
Mangione’s’manifesto’ and her Goodreads account
The manifesto of Ted Kaczynski, the Unabomber, who carried out terrorist attempts in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s because he detested “industrial society and its consequences,” has a favorable four-star rating on Mangione’s Goodreads account.
“It’s easy to quickly and thoughtlessly[ly] write this off as the manifesto of a lunatic,” Mangione wrote in his assessment.
“He was a violent person who injured innocent people and was properly imprisoned.
“While these actions tend to be characterized as those of a crazy luddite, however, they are more accurately seen as those of an extreme political revolutionary.”
Meanwhile, there was allegedly a 262-word handwritten message in the suspect’s bag that was discovered with him at the Pennsylvania McDonald’s.
According to a senior law enforcement officer who apparently saw the document, Mangione seemed to be candid about the incident in the memo, The New York Times claimed.
The suspect allegedly added businesses that “continue to abuse our country for immense profit because the American public has allowed them to get away with it” to his letter, which read, “To save you a lengthy investigation, I state plainly that I wasn’t working with anyone.”
According to reports, he also added, “I do apologise for any strife and trauma, but it had to be done,” and “these parasites had it coming.”
