On-air, Kirk Herbstreit is crying over the death of his dog Ben and lamenting the loss of man’s best friend.
Just two days after declaring that he and his wife had to put down their golden dog, who accompanied him to many of his games, the football commentator made an appearance on ESPN’s “College GameDay” on Saturday morning.
Thank you again for all the outpouring of love for our Ben. I can’t tell you how much it means to me and my family.

ESPN presented a footage on Ben during the broadcast, in which Kirk talked about how he was much more than simply a dog or travel buddy. It was obvious that Ben was still experiencing intense emotional pain because he was hardly able to discuss Ben throughout the show.
The audience starts chanting “We love Ben!” in time as Kirk’s cohosts thank him for sharing Ben with them just before the video starts.
It appears like Kirk was meant to talk a bit more about his dog, but as you can see from the video, he just couldn’t find the right words.
Over the years, Ben gained notoriety by traveling the nation with Kirk and making appearances on numerous national broadcasts. Along with Kirk’s teammates, coaches, and other players, he was frequently seen wandering the fields.
Ben was 10.
