In The Wolf of Wall Street, Margot Robbie gave an explanation for her insistence on full-frontal nudity.
Robbie plays Naomi Lapaglia, the wife of Leonardo DiCaprio’s character, former stockbroker Jordan Belfort, in the 2013 film. The film centers on Belfort’s ascent and decline, as well as the concurrent depravity brought on by quaalude.
The Australian actress’s acting career took off after Robbie’s portrayal of DiCaprio’s on-screen wife launched her to international renown. She received great acclaim for her performance as Naomi, and the movie made $406.9 million worldwide.
Additionally, Robbie and DiCaprio’s on-screen chemistry impressed both reviewers and viewers.
The 34-year-old Oscar nominee revealed how the 82-year-old director of the movie, Martin Scorsese, was first amenable to changing the sequence to make her feel at ease. She may wear a robe, he supposedly replied.
“But I said, ‘That’s not what she would do in that scene,’” Robbie recalled her response in an interview with the Talking Pictures podcast. She is playing the card of coming out fully nude, and that is the whole whole point.
Robbie previously acknowledged that she saw the movie with her family and talked about the consequences of its explicit scenes.
She claimed that one of her siblings really stopped talking to her for three months because he was so shocked by what he witnessed in the movie.
“I can’t express how awkward that was. Not because he was angry, but more because he was saying, “I just need a minute before I can consider you my sister again,” one of my brothers stopped talking to me for three months following the incident. “Robbie said.”
Despite her management advising her that “if there’s ever going to be a time for nudity, this is the director you do it with,” Robbie has previously admitted that she was first apprehensive about the naked sequences.
But because she believed it was what the character would have done, she chose to go ahead and seduce Jordan in the scenario.
Robbie talked about her opinions on nudity in movies in an interview with The Telegraph in 2014, saying, “I think nudity for the sake of nudity is shameful.” It’s horrible if they put it in merely to entice a girl to take off her top. And it’s always obvious.
However, I also find it repulsive when someone in the movie conveniently keeps their bra on or holds up the bed sheet while getting naked in real life. I get annoyed just as much when I see someone being staged to be hidden.
“The whole idea of Naomi is that her body is her only currency in this world,” she went on. I told her no when Marty [Scorsese] offered to help me and suggested that maybe I should wear a robe in the scene where she seduces Jordan. She must be nude.
