Hannah Kobayashi was discovered safe more than a month after going missing, and her family has expressed their “extreme relief.”
After weeks of seeking, the 31-year-old’s family said in a statement that she had gotten in touch with them on Wednesday, December 11.
After traveling from her home in Maui, Hawaii to Los Angeles on November 8 and missing her subsequent flight to New York City, Kobayashi appeared to vanish.
Kobayashi was sighted multiple times, but her loved ones were unable to locate her.
In the midst of the search for the photographer, the family suffered yet another tragic setback when her father, Ryan Kobayashi, was discovered dead in Los Angeles after flying over to assist in her search.
Kobayashi entered the US/Mexico border on November 12th, according to a case update released by the Los Angeles Police Department last week.
The force thought that she had ‘indicated a desire to walk away from modem connectivity’ and that there was no’speculation about probable involvement in human trafficking or foul play’.
Although Kobayashi’s luggage was checked aboard the trip to New York, police claimed they discovered that she later requested that it be returned to her at LAX.
On November 11, she was captured on camera picking up her bag before going to Union Station to buy a bus ticket.
Then she traveled to San Ysidro, California, and then hiked across the border into Mexico.
Kobayashi’s family was still worried about her safety and whereabouts, nevertheless.
However, the 31-year-old has ‘been discovered safe’ and her family has been in contact with her, according to her relatives.
Sara Azari, the family’s attorney, posted the statement on X yesterday (December 11) on their behalf.
“We are extremely grateful and relieved that Hannah has been found safe,” the statement said. Our family has endured an unfathomable tragedy over the past month, and we respectfully request your privacy while we take some time to recover and digest everything that has happened.
“We would want to sincerely thank everyone who helped us through this trying time.
“Your kindness and concern have meant the world to us.”
It happened after Kobayashi was advised by police to get in touch with her family in order to calm them down.
“She has a right to her privacy, and we respect her choices, but we also understand the concern loved ones feel for her,” stated LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell when it was announced that she was a “voluntary missing person.”
“A simple message could reassure those she cares about.”
