Tragically, a yacht party boat sank, killing 27-year-old Beatriz Tavares da Silva Faria and 37-year-old Aline Tamara Moreira de Amorim.
In a tragic event, two well-known influencers perished when their crowded boat capsized and they allegedly refused to use life jackets.
Aline Tamara Moreira de Amorim, 37, and Beatriz Tavares da Silva Faria, 27, were confirmed dead by authorities last month when their yacht overturned close to Devil’s Throat, a rocky, picturesque coastal location.
In Brazil, the two women were part of a larger group spending a day at sea, enjoying the scenery and shooting selfies.
The boat may have been overcrowded on the way back from the party, according to the investigation.
According to Sao Vincente police commissioner Marcos Alexandre Alfino, some passengers chose not to wear life jackets because they believed the jackets would obstruct their photos.
He said, “Some didn’t want to put them on because they were taking selfies.”
“They said that they get in the way of their tanning.”
The boat’s skipper, whose name has not been made public, has been giving the authorities thorough explanations of what transpired.
When the boat started to sink, he apparently did everything he could to try to save the influencers.
The five-survivor captain claimed that despite his boat’s limited capacity of five persons, he had been ordered to bring six influencers back to land.
Other people who survived the tragic event were Vanessa Audrey da Silva, Camila Alves de Carvalho, Daniel Goncalves Ferreira, Gabriela Santos Lima, and Natan Cardoso Soares da Silva.
Reports state that the boat was hit by a strong wave on September 29 and sank as a result of the passengers’ combined weight.
According to reports, Maritime Firefighters found Beatriz’s body first, having found it floating in the ocean.
But it wasn’t until a week later that Aline’s body washed up on Itaquitanduva Beach that it was discovered.
Investigators are currently investigating if this unfortunate event could have been prevented.
Commissioner Alfino said, “All this is being determined very calmly to conclude if the fatalities were based on recklessness or negligence.”
Aline, who couldn’t swim, was a mother to a small child. The boat that would eventually drown was the location of her final social media post.
Another influencer who made it through, Vanessa, later told local reporters that the group had gotten together for a party on a fancy yacht, where they partied and drank.
The group divided into two boats for the return trip as they were ready to go.
In order to avoid drowning, Vanessa, who was in the boat when the wave struck, clung to adjacent rocks and promptly located a life jacket.
“There was a time in the water when nobody could see anybody,” she recalled. I was struggling to survive.
Camila, another survivor, claimed that she used all of her power to hold onto a life jacket.
“There were very strong waves, we almost died,” she said, describing the horrific experience. We were not proficient swimmers. I knew I couldn’t endure it for very long. I ingested a lot of water and injured my foot.
“We threw ourselves into the rocks.”
