In the Maggie Carey-directed film, Aubrey Plaza portrayed a naive teenager.
Those uncomfortable bedroom scenes are a common feature of romance and teen-oriented movies.
We normally console ourselves with the knowledge that these scenarios are produced, even though they frequently make us cringe.
All of the sounds, gestures, and facial expressions are done only for the camera’s advantage. However, that isn’t always the case.
In an interview, Aubrey Plaza disclosed that she was requested to engage in on-camera masturbation for a film in which she portrayed a novice high school student.
Aubrey Plaza told Conan O’Brien a personal story about her experience making the 2013 film “The To Do List.”
Her character, Brandy, makes the decision to have more sex before attending college in this movie, which includes doing a little more self-discovery.
However, it wasn’t until she actually arrived on the set that Plaza understood how much she would get to know Brandy.
She told O’Brien that she had only intended to act the part.
However, Plaza recalled that when she asked director Maggie Carey for advice, Carey gave her a simple response: “Masturbate, like it says in the script.”
Plaza made a joke: “There were several elderly men smoking, the camera was fixed on the ceiling, and I was wearing only my panties and a Clinton T-shirt when I arrived. “The crew guys, you know!”
The actress went on to explain that although the team wasn’t smoking, that was the impression she had in her mind.
She went on, “And then I went and touched myself,”
“I thought I was doing one thing and then, when I showed up, it was a whole different thing; it was a full-body shot.”
In her earlier remarks about Plaza’s performance in the movie, Carey commended the actress for her bravery.
“She was game for everything, you know, which was so fun,” she told Screen Slam. Furthermore, she had little trouble placing herself in these really uncomfortable circumstances.
However, it’s meant to be humorous, and she did it flawlessly. She is really brave, and working with her was a lot of fun.
Although Plaza and Carey seem to be happy with the way “The To Do List” worked out, several internet users have pointed out that the situation may be viewed differently if it had happened in the present day.
“This is unacceptable, yet they all laugh it off. One critic said, “You can’t make someone enjoy herself for a television program.”
Plaza also discussed the notorious scene with Oregon Live, acknowledging that it made her nervous.
“Looking back on it, I feel like the masturbating scene was a little bit the most nerve-racking,” she stated.
Because I was thinking, ‘Oh, we’ll probably shoot this in a way that doesn’t really require me to do it.'”
“But then when we did it and I was like, ‘Oh no, we’re going to shoot it where I do it’.”
If nothing else, it’s an excellent story to tell the grandchildren.
